Montreal Technicians, an IT outsourcer supporting small- and medium-sized businesses in Montreal, Canada, needed to address a cybersecurity gap for one of their customers. They selected Celerium’s Network Defender® to handle the customer’s needs. We caught up with Randal Wark, managing partner at Montreal Technicians, to learn about his experience with the Network Defender® solution. Here’s what he had to say:
We faced the classic dilemma of "you don't know what you don't know." Once we activated Network Defender®, we were immediately provided with reports highlighting how exposed some of our clients were to unseen threats. The solution had been installed at one of three corporate locations, and almost immediately, alerts began pouring in from one particular site. Upon further investigation, we discovered that a specific IP address was triggering the majority of these alerts. Tracing it back, we identified a computer on the guest network teeming with pirated software, regularly accessing level 9 sites.* Without this solution in place, the suspicious activity would have gone completely unnoticed.
Before implementing this solution, we realized that while our security setup included MDR for workstations and Office 365, there was still a glaring gap—the firewall. While it offered protection against external threats, nothing was in place to guard against threats initiated from within. Celerium’s Network Defender® solution provided the crucial layer of defense needed to fill this internal cybersecurity gap.
The implementation team went above and beyond during the initial rollout. They were present every step of the way, conducting regular check-ins to assess that the setup was functioning smoothly. Their work was like a waiter returning after serving a meal to confirm everything was perfect, ensuring nothing was missing, and everything was as it should be. As a result, our client now has greater peace of mind knowing that their critical digital assets are much better protected.
Celerium’s Network Defender® solution is a no-brainer addition to any cybersecurity stack.
The existing cybersecurity stack included MDR (managed detection and response services ) for workstations and Microsoft Office 365, yet the firewall had no extra protection. Montreal Technicians chose Network Defender to add an important and cost-effective line of defense to close the gap their customer identified they had in their cybersecurity strategy.
Celerium helped the customer install the Network Defender® solution to automatically detect and block cyber threats at the firewall. Per the customer, the Celerium team was with them at every step during the initial roll-out, checking in at regular intervals, to ensure the setup was working as it should.
Upon installation, the customer was able to identify a computer on the guest network that was full of pirated software that was reaching out regularly to risky websites. Without Network Defender, the customer would not have found and been able to address this cyber risk.
*Level 9 refers to the risk score as assigned by the patented Decision Engine within the solution.
