As reported in a Sept. 14 FCW article, Dr. Christine Michienzi, chief technology officer for the deputy assistant secretary of defense for industrial policy, encouraged defense contractors to continue what they are doing to prepare for the implementation of Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) even while waiting for feedback from an internal review of this program. Dr. Michienzi made these comments during a fireside chat at the Intelligence and National Security Alliance’s September 13 Summit.
CMMC, a unifying standard for the implementation of cybersecurity across the Defense Industrial Base (DIB), is undergoing an internal review by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) to ensure the best mechanisms are being used to structure CMMC and certify companies’ cybersecurity levels.
Dr. Michienzi stressed that CMMC will endure as it is a “methodology to make sure that cybersecurity practices are understood and are being implemented.” She added that the DOD “will be finalizing any changes to CMMC very soon.” A separate article from Potomac Officers Club noted that the DOD’s review of CMMC is expected to be completed late this year.
Here are some ways that Celerium can help companies prepare for CMMC:
- Celerium’s CMMC Academy helps defense contractors prepare for their CMMC assessments via our online courses.
- Our CMMC Insights courses help you get ready for a CMMC assessment, including the evidence and validation criteria required to become certified so that your company can continue doing business with the U.S. Government.
Also here at our Celerium blog, we will keep you posted on the findings of the DOD’s internal review of the CMMC program.
